Cryogenic Grinding

Grinding elastic or heat-sensitive products to small particle sizes is not always feasible. Cryogenic grinding can prove particularly useful in this context.

We have more than 35 years of experience in cryogenic grinding. The use of liquid nitrogen (LIN) or carbon dioxide (CO2) as a coolant increases grinding efficiency and safety. It is an active method to prevent explosion and fire risks.

For cryogenic grinding it is recommended to use the cooling hopper (patented), cooling screw (vacuum-insulated on demand) and injection systems for nitrogen or carbon dioxide.

We can offer tests performed on our own equipment or together with co-operation partners.

The benefits of cryogenic grinding:

  • Increased throughput and productivity
  • No product caking in mill or on other equipment
  • Inert atmosphere provides protection against explosion and oxidation
  • Low level of wear and tear (grinding equipment)
  • Heat-sensitive products (e.g. spices, pharmaceutical products, thermoplastics) are not affected

Our Cryogenic grinding includes:
  • Application consulting
  • Profitability analysis
  • Test procedure in laboratories and production mills
  • Adapting existing grinding units for cryogenic use
  • The installation of reliable and effective cooling units
